LAUNCHING JANUARY ’23

Esports programming are running at BE GREAT Academy Middle School programs and BGC Teen Centers across South Carolina. These teams are open to any member that wishes to participate regardless of gaming experience. If you want to play, there’s a spot on the team for you.

Teams will have opportunities to practice each game before each season starts. The regular season will consist of weekly matches against other teams. At the end of the season, teams will be ranked and compete in a knockout tournament until a championship game decides the winner.

Esports is short for electronic sports and refers to the world of competitive video gaming.

Players participate as individuals or as part of a team in organized competitions focused on a single game.

Any competitive multiplayer video game can qualify as an eSport, but there are some games that already have established leagues and tournaments.

Participation in esports helps youth and teens develop fine motor skills, strategic planning, social-emotional skills and teamwork.

Character & Leadership:

Similar to traditional sports teams, esports teams provide bonding and team building opportunities. Members will get a chance to practice leadership, communication, problem solving, focus, and critical thinking skills.

Career Readiness:

Esports can open the door to exciting and emerging careers in STEM, healthcare, military, and gaming. Esports itself is a billion-dollar industry with jobs beyond just gamer and video game designer. The industry now includes jobs in marketing, event planning, news media & reporting, sales, coaching, tournament coordinator and so many more.

College:

Many colleges and universities are offering classes and even majors in esports & esports management in a addition to having esports teams. These schools often offer scholarships to who show interest and skill.
